Please help my daffodils. :(

I live in the middle of North Carolina, USA. I noticed last week that my daffodils and tulips have started peeking through the mulch. :/ We had a cold snap a month or so ago, and since then, it's been unseasonably warm. It's starting to get cold again (they are predicting SNOW tomorrow), and I worry that the flowers are coming up to early and will freeze to death.

There's only a bit peeking up, and I've considered covering them with sheets. Does anyone have any advice? Am I freaking out over nothing? This is my first growing season since I moved into our new house, and I really want the flowers to come up and be beautiful

*Don't* cover them. They'll be fine at this stage. Covering them will encourage further growth, which you don't want.

they're fine. They'll go back to 'sleep' when it gets cold again.

I'm in New York and they pop up early here all of the time. It doesn't seem to hurt them as long as it's just the leaves.

I lived in upstate NY (WAY, WAY upstate - 8 hours north of the city) for most of my life, with daffodils in the front flower beds. They'd poke through in March and then bam - two inches of ice overnight. They'll be just fine. They're hardy in the cold.

I live in south Georgia. Mine are six inches tall, and came through the last weather episode of 26 degrees just fine, and I expect them to come through this one coming up as well. Just leave them. They will manage. I generally have blooms when we get our last frost.. and you know what? They do fine.

i'm in the charlotte, nc area and i had the same thing happen last year and everything turned out healthy and happy, even after that random april cold snap. just let them get on with what they're getting on with, it'll be just fine. good luck!

I am so thankful you posted this. I live in Nashville and have the same thing going on. I have worked so hard...through a late freeze, a severe drought and unseasonably hot summer. Now I have 3 inch shoots all over my flower beds with freezing temps. Good luck with all of your flowers! I feel so much better having read all these comments.

Don't worry, they'll survive. I have daffodils poking their heads up in my containers, and it is still pretty cold here (Vancouver, BC). My local gardening store guy told me that they have a natural antifreeze in their stems, so a little cold doesn't bother them.
