What can I do with it to make it look nice again? Do I have to go in and shape the bush or something?

I have a bunch of lavender on the side of my house. After it blooms it leaves these stick looking parts and they're pretty ugly. I thought they would just pull out because they appear pretty dead but they don't.
What can I do with it to make it look nice again? Do I have to go in and shape the bush or something?
